Take it from me: Interior Design Inspo – Top tips and Instagram Accounts
I love beauty and skincare and fashion but also absolutely love interior design. I am that girl who spends hours looking through Pinterest and Instagram at interior design inspo. When you think about it, it is a little odd that it’s satisfying looking through images of how people have decorated their bedroom, but it’s so enjoyable you can’t help it. Now, I am in no way at all saying that my space here is even in the same league as some of the beautiful rooms I see on Instagram, however I am proud of what I have achieved and that I completed this whole process by myself.
Previously my room was green and pink with a floral theme, I had this for around 4 years but taste changes over time so I decided it was time for a change. I had never redecorated an entire room alone before, but I was well up for the challenge. I began by putting a mood board together, I knew that I already wanted a predominately white room with grey but I needed to decide on furnishings, it’s always a good idea to think about this stuff before you start so you don’t change your mind when it’s too late. So I put together mood boards which included; inspiration, lighting, bedding and decorative accessories. I decided on a white and grey décor with silver accessories and a dash of blush pink. I also put together a cost spreadsheet so I knew exactly how much the project was going to cost.
The process was a little longer than I anticipated and I ran into a couple of problems after stripping the wallpaper, which revealed some problems with the plaster but once that was sorted it didn’t take too long. Once the decorating was finished it was then the fun part, buying all of my decorative pieces. Of course I took a trip to IKEA and a store called The Range. Having my mood boards already in place made it so easy to pick out exactly what I wanted. I am very happy with how it turned out and it makes me so happy to be in the room now. I have put a couple of pictures down below so you can see how it turned out, my top tips for any interior project and my top 5 interior inspo accounts. Although not beauty related, I hope you enjoy!
Top 5 Tips
Do some research of some interior design inspo to see what it is you like and don’t, doing this I found that I went off the idea having a cream décor with rose gold finishings (just my personal preference).
Create mood boards. They are so easy to make, I simply looked on some homeware sites and picked out some furnishings and accessories I liked, copied the pictures into a word document and set them out into sections.
Sometimes you can incur unexpected costs, which can’t always be avoided. Look online at the things you want to buy and calculate the total, this will give you a good idea of how much you need and try to set aside a little extra should anything go wrong.
Having never decorated a room before I just thought it would be easy and simple, I was wrong. There are certain ways and orders to do things in that can make all the difference to how it turns out. There are lots of videos on Youtube showing you the proper way to it.
Be space savvy
I am quite fortunate with the space I have as a I have a small walk in wardrobe and room for a dressing table and a double bed but not all rooms have as much space. There are so many ways to make the most of the space you have. Try searching ‘small room hacks’ on Pinterest and get some ideas.
